I am in an In-Between Space – The Journey of an Instructor in the Prairie Jubilee Program

By Cheryl Kinney Matheson – Instructor for the Prairie Jubilee Program

Prairie Jubilee Cycle 7 has ended.

I have just completed reading the final papers submitted by my four students as Jane and Carol Ann are PJP Cheryl Graphicalso completing their work with their students. Each time I wrote ‘congratulations…you have met all the requirements of Prairie Jubilee’ I felt joy and also a tinge of sadness because these students, whom we have grown to care about so deeply, will not be sitting around the circle with us again. Neither will Nola Sharp, a Cycle 7 Intern who will be continuing with her Teaching, Counselling and Direction in Camrose this Fall.

Prairie Jubilee Cycle 8 is taking shape.

At present, we have eight confirmed students with a couple more still discerning. Jane and I have welcomed Dale Bially to our Instructor-team. Dale, an intern for Cycle 7, will replace Carol Ann who will continue to act as a resource for our team but will not attend residencies full time. We have also welcomed Beverly Drever and Beatrix Schirner as Cycle 8 interns. As Registrar, I am sending out reading lists, liaising with the University of Winnipeg, and confirming our needs with The Sandy Sauteaux Spiritual Centre…

I am also in a time of prayer.

I am holding those who have completed Cycle 7 and those who will be part of Cycle 8 in prayer, along with our leadership team: Tracy, Joanie, Ulla, Louisa, Kristine, Margaret, Barb, Karen, Carole, Carol Ann, Dale, Jane, Nola, Beatrix, Beverly, Jo Anne, Deborah, Andrea, Sandra, Nirdosh, Brenda, Cathryn, Lisa, and those still in discernment. I often turn to John O’Donahue’s book “To Bless the Space Between Us”. In this book he offers blessings / prayers for when we are in an in-between space: longing times, threshold times, calling times. My prayers include these offered by O’Donahue (p.42).

Receive encouragement when new frontiers beckon.

Respond to the call of your gift and the courage to follow its path.

May you experience each day as a sacred gift woven around the heart of wonder.
