Musings From the Hinterland – By Susan Sorensen

Hello dear Jubilee friends,

Iʼm here on the island now – settling into the rhythms of summer. Watching the beautiful lupins opening and painting the landscape with swaths of purple and pink amid the green. A heron flies by at dusk as I pause with hands in soapy suds, washing supperʼs dishes. Iʼm enjoying the ʻdailinessʼ of life here by the shore.

A musing from my evening silent sitting last week:

Susan Post pic Lupins

I breathe in
an expansive breath
feel myself relax
drop into the stillness of my being

rest
restless
wondering
what will Silence speak to my heart

I hear words
what do they mean
they touch an old and secret fear
anxious, I search my mind for their message

I turn them over and over in my mind caught in thinking, over-thinking

receive
relinquish control
trust

then breathe
an expansive breath
feel myself relax
drop into the stillness of my being

and I smile
a smile of my inner heart
must you scare me to get my attention

perhaps

I re-member
I am here
in the heart of God
even this I can surrender to You.
